Safe Schools - Healthy Students grantApplications are now being accepted for the Safe Schools – Healthy Students grant, which supports community-wide efforts to create safe and drug-free school environments. Plans must address school safety, violence prevention, substance abuse prevention (including tobacco and alcohol), social supports for students, mental health services and early childhood programs. The deadline is March 14, 2008.
Summer Food Service Program for ChildrenApplications are being accepted for a program that supports
schools and community organizations that serve meals to low income children during the summer months. The Indiana Department of Education is facilitating the federal Summer Food Service Program for Children. This program reimburses local sponsors that serve healthy meals and snacks to children and teens in low-income communities during the summer months. The deadline is April 28, 2008
Carol M. White Physical Education ProgramThe Carol M. White Physical Education Program supports school districts, schools, youth agencies and faith-based organizations to start, expand or strengthen phys ed programs for K-12 students. The grant range is $100,000 to $500,000. Applications are due March 24, 2008.

Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale, hosted by Sandra Lee and Duff Goldman is a national campaign that mobilizes Americans to end childhood hunger by holding bake sales in their communities.
2008 Hoosier Rising Star CompetitionThis honor will be awarded to as many as five young Hoosiers who have made a significant difference in their Indiana
communities. Hoosiers are encouraged to nominate an outstanding youth in their community. Any student enrolled in
grades K-12 during the 2007-08 school year is eligible. All application materials should be submitted together and must be postmarked by April 1, 2008.
Reaching Youth OnlineIn this workshop led by Roger Williams from Emergent Leadership Institute and Kirsten Eamon-Shine, participants will explore social networking sites and how online tools can support positive youth development. This fun, participatory training provides an overview of online tools that engage youth and hints about how you can utilize these tools to benefit your programs and youth. Peace Learning CenterThe Peace Learning Center offers a half-day session on Addressing Conflict in Healthy Ways. This session will be held April 18 from 8:30 am - 12:00 pm. Participants will learn and practice techniques such as asking for and expressing oneself with clarity, setting healthy boundaries, and learn how body language and tone of voice can help or hinder our communication with others. Cost of the session is $25.
